Securing the blessing of liberty Essays

Securing the blessing of liberty Essays Securing the blessing of liberty Paper Securing the blessing of liberty Paper freedoms, and liberties of the people, from manipulation by the government. The framers took it upon themselves to come up with a constitution and a republican form of government (a government for the people by the people. These two aspects (constitution and the republican structure) ensured that the rights, freedoms, and liberties were protected (Dysart 95). This idea enabled the framers to understand more concerning the structure of the government. The idea was based on equality that manifested itself in form of rights, freedoms, and liberties. The idea also worked towards securing these liberties for the future generations. Having this in mind, the framers understood that the republican and the democratic government structureswere suitable at the moment. The framers understood that by implementing the republic structure, the people would voice their opinions through voting hence, giving them an opportunity to express themselves. The framers also understood that the republican structure would also represent the minority in that, the representatives would also be assigned in accordance to the population of the districts. Therefore, the framers enacted the republican and democratic structures (Christopher 97). American political culture and the basic tenets of American democracy The American political culture contains core ideal and values. These ideals and values include liberty, equality, democracy, individualism, unity, and diversity. The American political culture dwells on these values and ideals and on ways to achieve each of them. The American government relied on these values, and used them to ensure proper governance. After a long period of living under the British rule, the framers felt that there was need for change. This explained the cause of the American Revolution. After achieving independence (acquired through struggle and sacrifice), the framers established a republican and democratic government that contained the key values and ideal cores mentioned above, to prevent the reoccurrence of the dictatorial rule (as it had been under the British governance). The American democracy was made up of certain basic tenets. These tenets include, individual worth, equity, individual freedom, popular sovereignty, majority rule, minority rights, limited government, religious freedom, and compromise. These tenets acted as the foundation of democracy, they (the tenets) helped define democracy and show what it entailed. Democracy helped to preserve the rights, liberties, and freedoms of the people, with the help of these tenets. Through these tenets of democracy, the framers were able to â€Å"secure the blessing† for themselves and for future generations (Bimber 98). References Bimber, Bruce Allen. Providing the Evidence When the argument is stated, a college student has to prove it by providing credible evidence. The Labor Supply and China Economics Term Paper

The Labor Supply and China Economics - Term Paper Example This paper will discuss labor supply in China. It will highlight the concept of wages and employment in the Chinese economy and the outcomes of human resource development. Discussion Wages and Employment in the Chinese Economy The economic transitions that China has experienced in recent years are characterized by the adjustment of wage and employment by private enterprises in order to maximize profits. The government controls the wages and employment of the enterprises that are owned by the state. This is in an attempt to improve the quality of the income for the workers and to curb inflation. The government achieves this through setting a wage ceiling for each enterprise. The wages of the enterprises that are better performing are regulated strictly (Chow 53). Despite the strict regulation of the wages and employment for these enterprises in China, the firms have some influence on the wage and employment. The determination of wage and employment is like a bargaining process with th e social security and labor bureau playing a huge role. In the process, the government aims to lower wage and higher employment while the enterprises aim at reaching huge profits (Chow 53). Collective Bargaining and Its Effects on the Wages and Employment Collective bargaining has been used in many economies as a means of regulating wages and employment conditions. This instrument has been used in China to address the issue of decreasing labor supply, which needs immediate attention. It has become the most important source of strategies for the regulation of conditions relating to wages and employment in countries such as China. The coverage of the bargaining agreements is very high in China with the public sector witnessing the coverage of all the wage earners in all jobs. The private sector has a lower coverage of the collective agreements with this coverage varying significantly between various branches and employee categories. The corrective bargaining agreements contain compreh ensive regulations for the relationship of the employment with the inclusion of aspects that are regulated in other countries through the constitution or various statutes. Trade unions are of great importance in the achievement of the collective bargaining agreements as their importance is not limited to the establishment of conditions in the employment and wage sectors but they are also important in application and supervision of law in the firms. Employees are unlikely to realize their contractual rights in the absence of support from the trade unions (Li and Zax 3). In China, the collective bargaining agreements became the main form of regulation for wages and employment in the 20th century with the first agreements offering price lists for various kinds of work. These agreements became more comprehensive later as they encompassed rules that not only included time but also work rules, work time, freedom of association and peace obligations. The collective bargaining agreements we re at first concluded at the local basis, which covered limited enterprises. During this period, the collective bargaining concept had not been integrated into China’s legal system. Henceforth, individuals were not aware of the legal status and effects of such agreements (Ni, Wang and Yao 19). Macroeconomic Outcomes of Human Resource Development

Ethics Question Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Ethics Question - Essay Example On one hand violation of the environmental laws by the company should be punished and this is within the enforcement powers of the agency. The EPA should follow required procedures and cannot go beyond the authority granted by Congress. Provided the estimated risk concerning the health, safety or environmental protection is greater than the economic impact from the plant closure, then the agency should enforce its decision. On the other hand, shutting down the plant will cause significant social damage, as the plant is the major source of employment for the town. If breach of environmental laws does not represent a major threat to the health and safety of people and has not significantly impaired local environment, then the agency can take restrictive action other than closing the plant, probably by imposing penalties or fines and undertaking future stricter control over the company's operations. The Environmental Protection Agency requires your company to self-report pollution discharges daily. It is your job to make those reports. The reports could be easily fudged if the company exceeded its designated limits. Excessive discharges would cost the company $25,000 for each day its limit is exceeded.

The Titles of Dr. Jekyll in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

The Titles of Dr. Jekyll in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde In the novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dr. Jekyll held a number of titles, including M.D., D.C.L., LL.D., and F.R.S. These titles indicate that Dr Jekyll was a well educated in man in both medicine and law. The first title, M.D., stands for doctor of medicine. In the mid 1800's (about the time Jekyll would have been educated), medical students attended medical school for approximately 3-4 years (there was no definite length). Their training was based around "natural philosophy": their studies included anatomy, physiology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, therapeutics, biology, surgery, sociology and philosophy. Along with these subjects, students were encouraged to take courses in Latin and Greek. Exceptional students were encouraged to apply to either Oxford or Cambridge: these two schools were the best that England had to offer and can be compared to America's Harvard University in Boston. Things have changed slightly in the last one hundred years or so. Medical school is at least 4 years long (although many students stay in medical school for 5-6 years). Philosophy is no longer the main focus of medical school. The courses that were considered the most important in the medical school 's curriculum (biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics) are now left to the undergraduate colleges to teach the pre-medical students. After medical school, students of the 1800's only had to take a test, and if they passed, they were free to work at any hospital they chose to study the practical branches of their profession. It is no longer that simple. Once finished with school and certification testing, the student begins a rigorous internship (c... ...entific society to researchers in many different fields, such as art and medicine. Fellows would get together to discuss the "natural philosophy." This society was open to anyone with a natural interest in science until 1847. Since then only those persons who have done original work are invited into the society. Indeed Dr. Jekyll was an extraordinarily smart person. It would have taken an enormous amount of time and energy to accomplish all the titles that a man like himself earned. Works Cited Acronyms, Initalisms and Abbreviations Dictionary. 15th ed. 1991. Apple Analysis

Apple Business Analysis As a mutual fund manager, the decision to invest or not to invest in a company is one that entails thorough research of a company’s assets, business practices, and their way ahead. As a mutual fund investor, I want to invest in a businesses with high return on investments and businesses that need collateral but will not hinder my business. I will conduct a detailed analysis of their brand, stakeholders, customers, products, business ownership, and a SWOT analysis. Background InformationApple was founded by Steven Jobs, Stephen Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne in 1976, they launched their first computer in 1977 in which they earned over $100 million by 1980. In 1984, Apple introduced the Macintosh, the first personal computer with a mouse, which was very unsuccessful in the beginning. Steven Jobs left Apple but returned to work there in 1997. Apple created very innovative products such as the iPod, iMac, iPhone, and iTunes. Apple is known for technologically ad vanced innovative products, which in return allows them to market their products at high dollar value and create a high demand. With the resignation and death of Steven Jobs, the future of Apple is unpredictable. SWOT Analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) Strengths Apple’s products are leading the way in design, reliability, longevity, uniqueness, and development. Products such as the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and the iPod have become the forefront in their specific arenas. Apple is known for creating innovative products that attract to people of all ages. Unlike many other companies, Apple is involved with every aspect of their product from the design to the software on the products. With the variety of products offered by Apple, they have very many loyal customers whom can use Apple for all of their IT needs. This is important when branding a product with all of the variety choices of electronics offered. In addition, Apple has capitalized on their products by mak ing them easily accessible to their consumers. The implementation of iTunes, a proprietary digital media player application, used for playing and organizing digital music and video files (Wikipedia), which is also compatible with Windows, has enhanced their level of distribution to adults and children. According to datamonitor, Apple is urrently the largest technology company in terms of market capitalization. Weaknesses One of the most notable weaknesses was Steven Jobs resignation in August and his death in October. Job was considered the backbone of Apple and is hugely responsible for the success of the company over the past decade. Apple products are quite pricey compared to their competitors’ products, which may keep them from obtaining or retaining clientele. With the current state of our economy, many customers cannot afford to pay more for a product especially when there is a similar more affordable product available.Considering Apple does all of the designing of the hardware with their products, many apple products are not compatible with Microsoft. A huge example of this is the inability to use Microsoft office on many Apple products. Perhaps if Apple branched out and expanded their research and development, they could have more products that are interchangeably adaptable/compatible. Opportunities Apple has the opportunity to expand their iPhone to other retailers such as Sprint and T-Mobile rather than just limiting it to AT&T and Verizon. The iPhone has proven to be a very successful product even with all of the defects they have had to fix over the years, and it can present huge expansion opportunities. Apple’s Mac computers and notebooks have been a huge success and are known for their virus free operating systems. Apple should take advantage of this and expand more into the European and Asian markets which could help capitalize their profits. With the increase emphasis on eco-friendly products, this market is only growing and can op en the doors for Apple to expand even more. ThreatsApple is in constant competition with PC competitors such as Dell, Microsoft, and HP, and on the mobile side, Motorola, Nokia, and Samsung. Both sides of their competition offer more affordable products and many times pick up the slack where Apple failed at. An example of this is the Google TV and the Android by Motorola. Also, many companies have latched out to businesses and become their primary source of equipment, however because Apple products are not compatible with Microsoft office, it prevents them from successfully entering this market. The company’s internal and external stakeholders According to the U. S. Department of Interior, a stakeholder is any individual or group that has an interest in a decision or actions of the company. The stakeholders can have authority or decision-making power, affected by the decisions, and is a part of the implementation process. The internal stakeholders are the employees and the com pany’s owners. When Steve Jobs resigned, Tim Cook became the new CEO of Apple. As the CEO you are responsible for making sound decisions that do not hurt your company and its employees. In conjunction with the CEO, the managers, researchers, developers, partners, and all other employees are internal stakeholders as well. The employee’s needs are that they have good working conditions and reasonable benefits package to keep them employed. With the success of Apple over the last few years, it is safe to say that Apple as a company is meeting the needs of their personnel. The external stakeholders are the customers, suppliers, and the government. The customers ultimately make or break the success of a company because they are the ones that have to be impressed enough to buy the products.Customers expect great service, superior products, and reasonable prices. Apple has listened to their customers’ needs and implemented various services to ensure they are satisfied w ith their products. Apple is a consumer of their suppliers, therefore, the suppliers need to make sure that Apple is happy with their services, and in return Apple will continue to utilize them. Another external stakeholder we sometimes forget about are the government and media outlets. As we all know the media plays a huge role in the success or failure of a company.Apple has experienced both sides of the media, and with the tragic death of Steven Jobs, the media has focused huge amounts of attention on Apple which could turn into a positive outcome. With the economic crisis we are going through, the government expects Apple to create jobs to help strengthen our economy and they also have the ability to raise taxes that Apple pays. In conclusion, Apple has very loyal customers and as long as they keep working to create and perfect their products, they will always remain a stiff competitor. With Apple’s plans to expand and diversity to integrate into other markets shareholders and stakeholders have nothing to worry about. Communication & professional relationships with children, young people and adults Essay

Being able to build positive relationships with others helps children and young people to gain the most from being in school and is important to ensure the communication of information between children and the adults responsible for them. We are more likely to build a positive relationship with someone when we can communicate effectively with them. Effective communication is a way of setting boundaries so everyone knows what is expected of them. Most disagreements and conflicts are caused by a breakdown in communication. Children learn how to build relationships with others by watching and copying the relationships between the adults around them. It is, therefore, important to show effective communication skills when dealing with others and take care with what we say and the way we act when in stressful situations. Children can become confused if we ask them to behave one way and then show them contradictory behaviour which can make it harder for them to understand rules and boundaries. 1. 2 It is important to communicate in a way that relates to the age and interests of the child, young person or adult. If others are comfortable with us we are more likely to communicate effectively. The main principles of relationship building are: Showing respect – it is important to listen carefully to others’ point of view and show you are paying attention to them when they are speaking Being considerate – consider circumstances which may cause stress or upset and affect behaviour at any given time Taking time to listen – show interest in what is being said and respond appropriately, offering advice if requested Being clear – make sure any information or instructions are clear and understood, and made in a way suitable for age / ability / circumstances 1. 3 It can be necessary to adapt your communication style depending on the situation. Professionally a more formal style may be required for meetings with colleagues and parents or other adults involved with the school. Cultural differences can also affect communication. Certain behaviours such as eye contact or physical contact, e. g. shaking hands, can be forbidden. Certain gestures or body language may be offensive in some cultures and it is important to be aware of these issues when communicating with people from these cultures. 2. 1 If children do not feel their contribution to a conversation is valued they are less likely to initiate further communication. To help them have this confidence you need to: Give them opportunity to speak and express their own opinions Make eye contact and show you are actively listening and paying attention. If you are looking away or doing something else at the same time children will feel you are not interested in what they are saying Make sure you are approachable. This can best be done by getting down to the child’s level, if they need to look up to speak to you they are more likely to feel uncomfortable. Smiling and reacting positively to what they are saying also helps improve their confidence in you and in their communication skills Maintain the conversation by reacting and questioning. This teaches children the ‘rules’ of communication and helps them to develop an understanding of how to communicate effectively 2. 2a Children of different ages will need different levels of attention and encouragement with communication. Younger children may lack confidence and need more reassurance, both vocal and physical, to be sure of their ability to communicate one to one or in group situations. It is important to match your language to the age of the child you are communicating with. If the words used are too difficult or unknown to the child they will have difficulty understanding and participating in the conversation. Too simplistic, in either words or delivery, and the child / young person may feel patronised and annoyed by your attempts to communicate and is much less likely to respond positively. 2. 2b Different situations will require different styles of communication. When supporting children in a classroom situation it is important to keep them focused on the lesson. Communication needs to be firm and clear so everyone is sure of what is happening and what is expected of them. In a less formal situation such as the playground it is better to be more relaxed with the children. This can help to build their confidence in their own communication skills but it is, however, still important to maintain a clearly professional relationship with them. 2. 2c Children with communication difficulties, such as speech, language or communication impairment, emotional or cognitive difficulties will need more time and reassurance to ensure they do not feel pressured when speaking. It is important to allow them to speak for themselves in order to build their confidence as well as their ability to communicate clearly. Where there are language or cultural differences it may be necessary to allow extra time for longer explanations of questions / instructions. Visual cues can be helpful and in some cases it may be necessary to use a translator. 2. 3 When communicating with children the main points discussed above, maintaining eye contact, responding to what they say etc. , are the same as when communicating with adults. However, it is also important to ensure the relationship is always formal and the child understands you are their carer in the school setting. When communicating with children it is also important to be very clear in what is said and what is meant. Children need to know exactly what is expected of them so they can continue to learn from us. The vocabulary used needs to be appropriate for the children involved. Although younger children may want hugs or to hold hands it is not really appropriate and physical contact with children of any age should never be initiated by the adult. 2. 4 When communicating with other adults you need to be aware of individual needs which may make effective communication difficult. Adults with physical impairments such as hearing difficulties may need you to speak more slowly and clearly to accommodate lip reading. It may be necessary to pass on messages orally to parents who have difficulty reading written letters. When communicating face to face you should try to adapt the language you use to reflect the language used by the other person. Formal meetings will need more formal language than an informal chat. 2. 5 Most disagreements are caused by lack of communication or miscommunication with others. The longer a disagreement goes on the harder it will be to resolve, so you should try to work out the problem as quickly as possible. Where a problem has occurred due to a lack of communication the best way to deal with it is to discuss it with the person involved as soon as possible to try to work out a way forward. It is important not to ignore the problem as this can cause more problems in the future. Another common cause of disagreements is a difference in opinion and expectations. It is important to be clear about what you expect from a situation from the start so there is no confusion. If parents have a different opinion from school in a situation it is important to explain clearly what happens in school and why it has to happen that way. Lack of confidence or pressure from outside situations can also affect the way people communicate which in turn can lead to disagreements. In this situation you need to show sensitivity and understanding in order to resolve the problem and prevent it from escalating. It is never acceptable to get into a disagreement with a child; you should be able to manage the situation using the school’s procedures for negative behaviour. You need to explain to the child why you are disagreeing with them and once you have done this you need to follow the sanctions that are in place within the classroom and school as a whole. By descending into an argument with a child you are giving them a negative model to follow instead of teaching them how to resolve disagreements in a socially acceptable manner. 3. 1 Data Protection Act 1998 – any organisation which holds information on individuals needs to be registered with the Data Protection Commission. Information held must be: Processed fairly and lawfully Only used for the purpose for which it was gathered Adequate, relevant and not excessive Accurate and kept up to date where necessary Kept for no longer than necessary Processed in line with the individual’s rights Kept secure Not transferred outside the European Union without adequate protection 2003 Green Paper Every Child Matters leading to the Children’s Act 2004 – this was put into place to stress the importance of more integrated services and better sharing of information between professionals dealing with children & young people. 3. 2 When building relationships with children, young people and adults it is important to reassure them that any information they may give you will be kept confidential. This will give them the confidence to know they can speak to you if there is a problem. Knowing you will not pass information on unless you have to will build trust between you and the child / adult. Breaking this trust would be detrimental to the relationship which can lead to a reluctance to share important information. 3. 3 If you are given information which leads you to suspect a child may be at risk of abuse or in some other danger it is important to pass the information on to the appropriate person within the school. You should make it clear to the person giving you the information that you are unable to keep it confidential but also that you will only pass it on to certain people and it will not be a subject of gossip within the school.

Theres More to Lulu.com Than You Realize

Theres More to Lulu.com Than You Realize Publishing has become a difficult business of late, with self-publishing horror stories and abundant free content discouraging even the most determined of writers. Enter lulu.com, a one-stop shop for writers wanting to take their publishing dreams into their own hands. Lulu offers a wealth of resources for writers, and some of the most useful are not readily apparent from the homepage. This article will whet your appetite with a few of the highlights that this website offers, but there is certainly more of use than what you will read here.AudienceLulu is a very specific writers resource and focuses mainly on the tasks of publishing and marketing completed works, more than how or what to write. Although there is some information available on more general writing skills and topics, this is first and foremost a site about publication, and all of the fun and frustrating aspects of it; from personal ISBN numbers, to spine width calculators for hardcover books (available in the Lulu Self-P ublishing Toolkit). That said, if you are looking to improve your skills as a writer, or bone up on a new genre or style, this may not be the most useful site that you can visit, despite its breadth of topics. Some of you may be asking, what if I dont know whether or not I want to self-publish? Well, there are guides which outline the demographics and pros/cons of different vendors and formats that might help you make that decision. Honestly, I had never considered self-publishing a viable option for writers who want to, to put it bluntly, be paid for their work, but this site makes a compelling case, with alluring profit margins helpfully displayed for each type of product and vending outlet, and an entire section dedicated to selling your work. It is definitely worth a look. This site makes a compelling case, with alluring profit margins helpfully displayed for each type of product and vending outlet, and an entire section dedicated to selling your work. It is definitely worth a loo k.Tried and tested publishers rarely give writers, especially new ones, this much control over content and format, either. With Lulu, you choose what goes into your book, what gets cut, what color the cover is, whether you want a certain image on a dust jacket, and even the always contentious title; all up to you. It is a very well-done, and enticing option that Lulu presents. While I cant attest to how well these methods work in real world sales scenarios, there are a seemingly endless stream of reviews scrolling across a green banner which can; most of them very positive.Lulu Self-Publishing ToolkitThe Lulu Self-Publishing Toolkit provides a wealth of tools and resources for writers looking to end the rejection letter cycle, and get their work out themselves. The thorough nature of the websites creators makes it a user-friendly interface, which even the most inept of computer users among us can navigate with ease. So glad that you asked, as the author services section is one of my favorite parts of this website.Publishing Marketing ServicesThe Publishing Marketing Services section of Lulu is just that; a compilation of some of the most useful services that a writer could need. Yes, before you ask, many of these serv ices have fees, which seem reasonable for what is being provided. Just like authors wanting to receive adequate compensation for their work, illustrators, editors, and others have honed their respective crafts in order to provide you with the best service possible, and thus deserve to receive some remuneration. The most impressive service available, in my opinion, is the toll-free phone number, which allows you to talk to an actual human being, who will aid you in choosing the services and providers that are right for your project and budget; invaluable. I should note that this service is available via email, as well, for the more reclusive among us. Among the impressive list of services offered via the user interface, are:Publishing Cover DesignsPersonal ISBN (International Standard Book Number)Color Illustrations; monochrome, tooDevelopmental Editing (one of five editing services offered)Social Media Coach; marketingHollywood Screenplay assistanceHonestly, they had me at personal ISBN; they clearly know writers.Within this web of online service providers, lies the editing services section, and your new best friend, if you are big on ideas, but not the most experienced when it comes to literary format. The Developmental Editing package offers all of the normal editing services that one might commonly expect, like punctuation and grammar, plus book level plot and flow analysis; all in one easy to hire service. Here is an excerpt from the service description:For works of fiction, the editor will analyze the readership and genre to determine whether the content is appropriate. He will then examine essential considerations such as plot, pace, characterization and dialog. For nonfiction titles, the editor will analyze the readership, purpose, and possible uses of the work to determine whether the content is complete and appropriate†¦Once big-picture changes have been made, the second step, a Content Edit, begins; the content editor will check the manuscript f or errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation. And third, the manuscript will receive a quality review to ensure the manuscript is editorially sound before it goes into production.Lulu.comOf course, line editing and content editing are available as stand-alone services, as well, for those who only need a second set of eyes in a more limited capacity. However, for the first-time writer, or those branching out to a new genre, the full-service package is an invaluable way to get a thorough, in-depth analysis of their work, with constructive feedback. And instead of having to personally research and vet a variety of editors, you can simply contact the helpful folks at Lulu, who will match your project with the most appropriate editor. For the first-time writer, or those branching out to a new genre, the full-service package is an invaluable way to get a thorough, in-depth analysis of their work, with constructive feedback.Non-writersIn addition to services for authors, Lulu highlights their benefits for Artists, Educators, and Nonprofits on their homepage, showcasing various book types and formats (photo book, calendar, etc.) available, which might better suit these groups. To be fair, these are not additional or separate services being offered, but more a quick reference to which of Lulus extensive services might best suit each type of creator. Still, the option is there, and the ability to specifically format a photo or cooking book might get even experienced authors thoughts going in a new and creative direction.Print eBookThe Create page is where the fun, magical part of self-publishing begins, as clients are first faced with that often difficult, but crucial, question; Print or eBook? This section is the one that I could see becoming a real rabbits hole, with extensive color and font options- not to mention graphics that could keep me happily planning book designs for hours. This section is also one that is empowering to creators and writers, though, with e ach and every decision resting solely in your hands; both a heady and slightly nerve wracking prospect.Should the paper versus pdf dilemma still confuse you, never fear. In addition to guides explaining option outcomes and likely demographics, there is a Knowledge Base page, with articles, questions, and responses from members of the Lulu Community. Fellow writers, illustrators, and creators have contributed useful knowledge and hard-won tips that can help guide you in your quest to make your personal labor of love as perfect as possible.Sum it upLulu.com is truly a remarkable website for authors, and might just be the resource that you are looking for to jumpstart your fledgling publication list, or mix things up with a new genre. Even if you would never considered self-publication, there is a shop area full of works by independent authors that is worth a look- both for research and personal enjoyment purposes- and a wealth of useful information about genres, vendors, and demograph ics that can enhance the industry knowledge base of any author. The publishing world is rapidly changing, and many authors feel overwhelmed by the new realities of Ebooks and downloadable content. Whether you feel perfectly comfortable pounding out Ebooks, or are just dipping your toe into electronic formatting, Lulu can help you to be more successful in your writing career, and we all need that kind of resource.

Teaching Others to Write. . . Online

Teaching Others to Write. . . Online If you’ve been published for any length of time, you realize thousands upon thousands of writers still struggle to get published or to decide what they want to write. Some still need to learn the basics while others seek to be steered in the right direction. With enough experience and knowledge under your belt, you might be able to help them and, in turn, increase your writing profits. You don’t need to be a New York Times bestseller or have numerous awards to your credit to teach; however, you do need strong writing skills, proof that you’ve mastered an area of writing, and the ability to convey the knowledge you have learned to others. Choosing the topic to teach involves research as you look into writing courses already available. You don’t want to offer a course too similar or too generic, and what you do offer should be a component of writing with which you’re extremely familiar. For instance, if you’ve gotten rave reviews on your villainous characters, you could possibly teach a course for other aspiring suspense/thriller writers. Teaching writing courses involves designing the course, which includes writing all of the lessons and the assignments, and setting the price, although some sites do have input on the fee. You will also review the students’ assignments and offer feedback for improvement. Some teachers offer an assessment test or a review wrap-up at the end of the course but neither are required. It is helpful to think creatively when you’re designing your course, though, because you must be a magnet, convincing writers why they should take your course. I just completed teaching a romance writing course for Wow! Women On Writing, and I have a different class, about how to strengthen your fiction, that will start on September 16th. The site takes 20 percent commission, but I factor that in when I set the price of my classes. I have been teaching for Women On Writing since 2016, and the extra income is well worth the small bit of time it takes to review student assignments. Sites like Women On Writing and Savvy Authors are always scouting for high-quality teachers, and once you pass their application process, you set the times you want to teach around your schedule. Plus, the material belongs to you, and you can use it as often as you’d like, whether it’s four times a year or only once. Â  CreativeLive is also open to new instructors, but these are recorded classes, which might be another interesting path to take. There is a short learning curve to teaching an online class, and it’s always beneficial to take one yourself before becoming the teacher. Become accustomed to the flow of the class to determine what you like and don’t like about particular ways of teaching. You’ll find your own way to present your information to students. You might also want to take this free course so you can learn to teach online. Once you’ve been teaching for a while, you could even try your hand at places like Udemy and Skillshare which offer video-based courses and a chance for you to earn even more money, though the learning curve at these sites has a bit of a wider arc. Finally, as a bonus, once you’re tired of a written course or don’t have the desire to teach it anymore, you can turn the classes into articles to sell. Most will need basic restructuring before you submit them for possible publication.

IS GOOGLE MAKING US STUPID by nicholas carr Research Paper

IS GOOGLE MAKING US STUPID by nicholas carr - Research Paper Example This paper aims to reject the propositions made by Nicholas Carr and also provides ample supporting evidence to reach to a conclusion. The paper provides a fairly balanced debate on the topic before forming any opinion on the credibility of Carr’s opinions and judgments about internet as a source of information or laziness. Carr’ judgments about technology as being an evil are discussed in the paper in detail and evidence is gathered, both, to support and refute the claims. Nicholas Carr focuses his attention on the search engine Google which is being used by almost every individual in the modern world. The author, Nicholas Carr, is of the view that although internet provides an endless pool of information, there are various inconsistencies about the information accessible on it. He argues that internet has distorted the manner of our thinking, analyzing and reading. Carr’s arguments on using internet for reading and researching are strong. The author does not de ny the easy access of information and help on almost every topic using Google or other search engines but emphasizes on the quality of that information accessed which is or may be questionable. The decreased use of published information and original research material being used is the point which Carr is concerned about. The use of Google or other search engines provide relevant but to some extent unreliable information to the user. In support of Carr’s judgements about technology, Gibson’s analysis of technology may be useful. Gibson simple rejects the idea of using internet as a tool to save our time. He proposes that internet provides us with ample space to waste time. He sees internet as a broad system which takes up our whole attention and diverts us from the real necessity which needed to be fulfilled. This is quite true in many cases as internet does not allow us to focus on one topic, task or software. People usually use 2 or more software when surfing through the internet and social networking websites, messengers and other software are used side by side. Gibson claims that " it offers us the opportunity to waste time, to wander aimlessly, to daydream about the countless other lives, the other people, on the far sides of however many monitors in that postgeographical meta-country we increasingly call home" (Gibson 1996). The claims are not invalid as it is evident in the daily life that internet, Google or other social networking websites or software takes up most of our time. When using Google for a research, people often come across a number of new ideas or things which distract the user from the original search. In an effort to highlight the deficiencies that internet and technologies bring in our lives, Bradley provides a useful and convincing opinion. Bradley does not support the ease of communication as a powerful claim in favor of technology but instead refutes it by claiming it to be the best example of our laziness† as it shows our â€Å"inability to communicate face-to-face". The technology is making us lazy and inactive. Google and search engines fdo not merely provide easy yet

Identifying, Stating, and Addressing Research Problems Essay

Identifying, Stating, and Addressing Research Problems - Essay Example A foremost flaw of â€Å"polygraph research† is the nonappearance of a self-governing decisive factor for setting up deception. As per a study, as well as lots of other experts relies on the assessor, who analyzes the polygraph to extort an assertion, which is then further utilized to corroborate the effectiveness of that course of action. Such non-independence unnecessarily puzzles research findings on â€Å"polygraph techniques.† We have exercised dual techniques to collect loads of polygraph investigations for the purpose of evaluation. (Rogers, 2008) Research methodology adapted for the assessment of â€Å"dishonesty and deception† increasingly has been standardized. Despite its obvious benefits, this standardization carries its own risk, that is to say, an unnecessary narrowing of research methods and a disinclination to explore alternative approaches. Via utilizing a huge sample â€Å"N = 1,424† of â€Å"military recruits, simulators and coached simulators† evidently enhanced their scores over controls on objective behavior scales concerning to â€Å"emotional adjustment, work orientation, and non-delinquency.† â€Å"Zickar and Robie† assessed and discovered an outsized gap of disparities that were steady with the â€Å"changing persons† mold of faking. It was also analyzed that items functioned in a different way on both thing i.e. â€Å"DIF and DTF levels.† They also observed about the susceptibility of items and scales to defensiveness. (Zickar, 1999) â€Å"Stark† proposed that â€Å"IRT† is the technique of selection for testing the impacts of precise responses styles on test scales as the technique of â€Å"IRT† goes further than mean divergence in probing â€Å"trait distributions.† (Stark, 2001) Post advanced investigations Stark et al discovered the extensive differences via both discrepancy prevalence i.e. â€Å"applicants vs. non-applicants† and â€Å"bootstrapping† {high vs. low on
