I. Overall Comments: The Harvard Business School article gives an overview the vast nature of recruiting by examining the recruitment process of SG Cowen. SG Cowen has a pioneer approach to recruiting therefore they have a quality of associates that is second to none. Their approach to recruiting combines common sense and consistency to recruit the most valuable associates. By changing their tactics from recruiting at only the top 10 schools, to recruiting at other non-core schools has given them a greater variety in the quality of their recruits. This approach is both realistic and sensible. As America is fighting a war against terrorism, thus that includes a war against Iraq.When war in Iraq started, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said that he knew where the weapons of mass destruction were. Secretary of State Colin Powell went to United Nations and described Iraq’s cache in detail, down to the pound of certain weapons. The United Nations had inspectors looking for these weapons. But the thing is, why weren’t those weapons found or for that matter, if they knew the location of the weapons that why didn’t they ju st guide the inspectors to the location.America went to war with Iraq not because Saddam was a brutal dictator and they wanted to help the people, if this were the case then there are far worse dictators in the world, why doesn’t America go to war with them. America has made use of the same dictator before when he was fighting Iran. Why is there a sudden change in their views and policies?There are many reasons why America went to war with Iraq; they have nothing to do with terrorism and Saddam being a brutal dictator. These reasons are political and economic. America wants to fill their needs by hook or by crook.Iraq has oil, which is what America needed. The neo-cons[1] convinced President George W. Bush that the solution to all his problems was to occupy Iraq and it would help take a step towards dominating the oil producing nations of the world. The neo-cons wanted to finish Iraq because it was a threat to Israel which was important to them. War in Iraq started and still exists because the President wanted to rule the world.[2]What they did not realize was that there would be repercussions that they would have to face; the people do not want the life that America is offering them. They want to be left alone. President Bush in his address to the nation said, â€Å"Our mission in Iraq is clear. We’re hunting down the terrorists. We’re helping Iraqis build a free nation that is an ally in the war on terror. We’re advancing freedom in the broader Middle East. We are removing a source of violence and instability, and laying the foundation of peace for our children and our grandchildren.†[3]There were many assumptions made by the American government when they decided to go war with Iraq. They thought that they were making the right decision and they could handle all that was going on there. What they did not realize was that they would be losing so many troops and the lives of the young children. Those children for whom they wa nted to create a safer tomorrow.The reasons that President Bush provided for going to war with Iraq do not seem valid enough. We know that there are three basic reasons: weapons of mass destruction, democracy for the region and fighting terrorism.[4] The first reason is not valid because other countries such as Pakistan and North Korea have a larger nuclear base and can be a threat to the nation. Iraq, on the other hand is years away from being able to produce weapons of mass destruction.The second reason of Saddam being a brutal dictator and that America wanted to bring democracy to that region is invalid because, dictatorship in Iraq was embraced when Iraq was fighting against America’s enemy. America was assisting Iraq during this time period, why did they not think about it being a dictatorship then, because it was serving their purpose? Also Iraq was removed from the list of terrorist nations when Reagan was President.The third reason for the war in Iraq is to fight terr orism. The reason given was that the elimination of Saddam would result in the terrorist groups around the world coming to a standstill and the threat that America faces would finish. The facts that we know tell us different. They tell us that Al-Qaeda wants to overthrow all those governments that do not follow Islamic principles and the Iraqi government would be swept away because of this doctrine. After the war in Iraq and the government that has now been introduced, the wrath of the terrorists would just increase instead of diminish.America is the only super power in the world. On this basis, the distribution of power is unjust because America can take advantage of this power and act as a bully to all other nations which are weaker to it. America has another advantage; it is not surrounded by other countries. This makes it difficult for other nations that might have the ability and the courage to attack the country.One thing that America needs to realize is that all these countri es that they have destroyed also have people living in them, just like the people living in America. Not all people in a nation are bad, and for these few people you cannot destroy the whole nation. America also has its fair share of criminals but that does not give any other country the right to come and destroy the whole of America. Going to war against nations to fulfill the governments greediness is a pathetic reason.The Al-Qaeda group developed because of America in the first place. The Americans supported the Afghani’s till they were fighting the Russians, as soon as the war ended all the supplies also stopped. America left Afghanistan desolated. In such a situation what were they supposed to do, their country was ruined; they had not food or place to live and no proper government. Eventually they started fighting amongst themselves. The Taliban seemed like the only ray of hope.The question I ask here is that what would we do when put in such a situation? Would we not r eact in the same manner?The American government has been able to accomplish one of its objectives, the removal of Saddam but the country is now in a precarious situation. People do not leave their homes because of the civil war going on. The infrastructure within the country has deteriorated because it was all destroyed in the war. Safety of the citizens especially safety of women has diminished. The human rights have suffered within the country. [5]The American government wanted to create a model out of Iraq but the only thing that they have done is make the situation worse. Even the American troops that are being sent to fight the war have started to think that if this war is worth risking their life for. The war is not for their freedom or to protect them from harm; it is for monetary benefits and being able to control the most precious commodity in the world, oil.America has done the same thing that it did in Vietnam; it did not analyze the situation well enough and went in full force. After some time they realized that they could not handle it and wanted out. But in the case of Iraq, this realization came much later. Up till this time much was lost, for both countries. Iraq lost everything while America lost many lives. The U.S. military has lost 4000 soldiers.There are three facts that we should keep in mind. Fact one, enlisted personnel should disobey unlawful orders. Fact two, officers should disobey unconstitutional orders. Fact three, the Iraq invasion was unlawful in that we didn’t first engage in collective action with other UN member states nor did we gain the prior assent of the UN Security Council. In violating the UN Charter we violated the Constitution because that treaty (UN Charter) became binding under Article VI of the Constitution.[6]America has faced many problems because of the war in Iraq. America cannot fight another battle on the same reasons as the one given for Iraq. Mainly because we now know that these reasons were a hoax. America cannot invade Iran saying that they have weapons of mass destruction, even if Iran does start to work on its nuclear plant and produce nuclear weapons. The second side affect is that the commitment to security at home has deteriorated. Steps that were introduced so that further terrorist attacks could not take place have not been implemented properly.One of the reasons for this lack of security is because the money or the budget allocation for these things has not been fair and it has been spent on the war in Iraq. The third side affect that the country has faced because of the war is that the economy has weakened. The national debt has increased and the funding that was needed for education, healthcare and the repair of the infrastructure has lacked. [7]We can then say that the government has actually jeopardized the nation for a war that was not theirs to fight in the first place. America is doing just what its constitution asks it not to do, which is racial profiling, di scrimination and not giving others their right. They have also violated many human rights laws. Based on these principals, we can call what America is doing in Iraq, terrorism.The U.S. has not only harmed other nations with their decision to invade Iraq but they have also harmed themselves. When we look back at the situation today, all we can see is destruction for no obvious reason. It was a blunder made by the government, which they refused to accept for a long time leading to worsening of the situation. This decision to invade Iraq and to fight the dictatorship has threatened the basic foundation of democracy in America.The reasons seem futile today, but at that time the people of America thought otherwise. They did not raise their voices against the war in Iraq, until it was too late and the mistake had already been made. Had this come earlier, it might have influenced the government’s decision and America would have been in a much better position.The war in Iraq has caus ed a lot of damage to people, emotionally, psychologically and socially. Those who have returned from the battlefield cannot adjust to their normal lives. The framers understood that by implementing the republic structure, the people would voice their opinions through voting hence, giving them an opportunity to express themselves. The framers also understood that the republican structure would also represent the minority in that, the representatives would also be assigned in accordance to the population of the districts. Therefore, the framers enacted the republican and democratic structures (Christopher 97). American political culture and the basic tenets of American democracy The American political culture contains core ideal and values. These ideals and values include liberty, equality, democracy, individualism, unity, and diversity. The American political culture dwells on these values and ideals and on ways to achieve each of them. The American government relied on these values, and used them to ensure proper governance. After a long period of living under the British rule, the framers felt that there was need for change. This explained the cause of the American Revolution. After achieving independence (acquired through struggle and sacrifice), the framers established a republican and democratic government that contained the key values and ideal cores mentioned above, to prevent the reoccurrence of the dictatorial rule (as it had been under the British governance). The American democracy was made up of certain basic tenets. These tenets include, individual worth, equity, individual freedom, popular sovereignty, majority rule, minority rights, limited government, religious freedom, and compromise. These tenets acted as the foundation of democracy, they (the tenets) helped define democracy and show what it entailed. Democracy helped to preserve the rights, liberties, and freedoms of the people, with the help of these tenets. These titles indicate that Dr Jekyll was a well educated in man in both medicine and law. The first title, M.D., stands for doctor of medicine. Apple products are quite pricey compared to their competitors’ products, which may keep them from obtaining or retaining clientele. With the current state of our economy, many customers cannot afford to pay more for a product especially when there is a similar more affordable product available.Considering Apple does all of the designing of the hardware with their products, many apple products are not compatible with Microsoft. A huge example of this is the inability to use Microsoft office on many Apple products. Perhaps if Apple branched out and expanded their research and development, they could have more products that are interchangeably adaptable/compatible. Opportunities Apple has the opportunity to expand their iPhone to other retailers such as Sprint and T-Mobile rather than just limiting it to AT&T and Verizon.The iPhone has proven to be a very successful product even with all of the defects they have had to fix over the years, and it can present huge expansion opportunities. Being able to build positive relationships with others helps children and young people to gain the most from being in school and is important to ensure the communication of information between children and the adults responsible for them. We are more likely to build a positive relationship with someone when we can communicate effectively with them. Effective communication is a way of setting boundaries so everyone knows what is expected of them. Most disagreements and conflicts are caused by a breakdown in communication. Children learn how to build relationships with others by watching and copying the relationships between the adults around them. It is, therefore, important to show effective communication skills when dealing with others and take care with what we say and the way we act when in stressful situations. Children can become confused if we ask them to behave one way and then show them contradictory behaviour which can make it harder for them to understand rules and boundaries. 1. 2 It is important to communicate in a way that relates to the age and interests of the child, young person or adult. If others are comfortable with us we are more likely to communicate effectively. The main principles of relationship building are: Showing respect – it is important to listen carefully to others’ point of view and show you are paying attention to them when they are speaking Being considerate – consider circumstances which may cause stress or upset and affect behaviour at any given time Taking time to listen – show interest in what is being said and respond appropriately, offering advice if requested Being clear – make sure any information or instructions are clear and understood, and made in a way suitable for age / ability / circumstances 1. 3 It can be necessary to adapt your communication style depending on the situation. Professionally a more formal style may be required for meetings with colleagues and parents or other adults involved with the school. Cultural differences can also affect communication. Certain behaviours such as eye contact or physical contact, e. g. shaking hands, can be forbidden. Certain gestures or body language may be offensive in some cultures and it is important to be aware of these issues when communicating with people from these cultures. 2. 1 If children do not feel their contribution to a conversation is valued they are less likely to initiate further communication. When supporting children in a classroom situation it is important to keep them focused on the lesson. In a less formal situation such as the playground it is better to be more relaxed with the children. This can help to build their confidence in their own communication skills but it is, however, still important to maintain a clearly professional relationship with them. 2. 2c Children with communication difficulties, such as speech, language or communication impairment, emotional or cognitive difficulties will need more time and reassurance to ensure they do not feel pressured when speaking. It is important to allow them to speak for themselves in order to build their confidence as well as their ability to communicate clearly. Where there are language or cultural differences it may be necessary to allow extra time for longer explanations of questions / instructions. Visual cues can be helpful and in some cases it may be necessary to use a translator. 2. 3 When communicating with children the main points discussed above, maintaining eye contact, responding to what they say etc. , are the same as when communicating with adults. However, it is also important to ensure the relationship is always formal and the child understands you are their carer in the school setting. When communicating with children it is also important to be very clear in what is said and what is meant. Children need to know exactly what is expected of them so they can continue to learn from us. The vocabulary used needs to be appropriate for the children involved. Although younger children may want hugs or to hold hands it is not really appropriate and physical contact with children of any age should never be initiated by the adult. 2. 4 When communicating with other adults you need to be aware of individual needs which may make effective communication difficult. Adults with physical impairments such as hearing difficulties may need you to speak more slowly and clearly to accommodate lip reading. It may be necessary to pass on messages orally to parents who have difficulty reading written letters. When communicating face to face you should try to adapt the language you use to reflect the language used by the other person. Formal meetings will need more formal language than an informal chat. 2. 5 Most disagreements are caused by lack of communication or miscommunication with others. The longer a disagreement goes on the harder it will be to resolve, so you should try to work out the problem as quickly as possible. Where a problem has occurred due to a lack of communication the best way to deal with it is to discuss it with the person involved as soon as possible to try to work out a way forward. It is important not to ignore the problem as this can cause more problems in the future. Another common cause of disagreements is a difference in opinion and expectations. It is important to be clear about what you expect from a situation from the start so there is no confusion. If parents have a different opinion from school in a situation it is important to explain clearly what happens in school and why it has to happen that way. Lack of confidence or pressure from outside situations can also affect the way people communicate which in turn can lead to disagreements. In this situation you need to show sensitivity and understanding in order to resolve the problem and prevent it from escalating. It is never acceptable to get into a disagreement with a child; you should be able to manage the situation using the school’s procedures for negative behaviour. You need to explain to the child why you are disagreeing with them and once you have done this you need to follow the sanctions that are in place within the classroom and school as a whole. By descending into an argument with a child you are giving them a negative model to follow instead of teaching them how to resolve disagreements in a socially acceptable manner. 3. 1 Data Protection Act 1998 – any organisation which holds information on individuals needs to be registered with the Data Protection Commission. Online If you’ve been published for any length of time, you realize thousands upon thousands of writers still struggle to get published or to decide what they want to write. Some still need to learn the basics while others seek to be steered in the right direction. With enough experience and knowledge under your belt, you might be able to help them and, in turn, increase your writing profits. You don’t need to be a New York Times bestseller or have numerous awards to your credit to teach; however, you do need strong writing skills, proof that you’ve mastered an area of writing, and the ability to convey the knowledge you have learned to others. Choosing the topic to teach involves research as you look into writing courses already available. You don’t want to offer a course too similar or too generic, and what you do offer should be a component of writing with which you’re extremely familiar. For instance, if you’ve gotten rave reviews on your villainous characters, you could possibly teach a course for other aspiring suspense/thriller writers. There is a short learning curve to teaching an online class, and it’s always beneficial to take one yourself before becoming the teacher. Become accustomed to the flow of the class to determine what you like and don’t like about particular ways of teaching. You’ll find your own way to present your information to students. You might also want to take this free course so you can learn to teach online. Once you’ve been teaching for a while, you could even try your hand at places like Udemy and Skillshare which offer video-based courses and a chance for you to earn even more money, though the learning curve at these sites has a bit of a wider arc. Essays --

Beyond the Bible, written by Howard Marshall, is a compilation of essays that seek to propose a biblically sound way to move from biblical text to doctrine and application. Marshall believes that if one is going to move â€Å"beyond the bible,† they must do so â€Å"biblically.† A concern for Marshall is also how to properly apply scripture to controversial matters in the church today. The book includes more than just Marshall’s work, but essays written by Kevin Vanhoozer and Stanley Porter as well, which backs the idea that hermeneutics should be a discussion, not a solo speech. In Marshall’s first essay, ‘Evangelicals and Hermeneutics,’ he summarizes the state of evangelical theology in relation to hermeneutics. Marshall describes how over the past thirty years, evangelical scholars have come to appreciate hermeneutics more than ever before. Evangelical scholars now grasp and explore hermeneutical concerns at all levels of study: general hermeneutics, exegesis, as well as exposition and application. Marshall states that while examining an author’s intent is important, it overlooks the question of sensus plenior, the work’s deeper meaning intended by God, not necessarily by the human author. In Marshall’s second essay, ‘The Development of Doctrine,’ he identifies two approaches to biblical interpretation, conservative and progressive. Marshall witnessed a need for greater clarity in regards to worship practices, principles, and theology due to the varying opinions among evangelical interpreters. Marshall mentions, â€Å"It is especially the duty of evangelical Christians to provide some kind of reasoned, principled approach to the question of the development of doctrine from Scripture† (Marshall 45). Marshall’s third essay, ‘The Search for Bi... ...ques approaches based on the historical-critical method, the speech-act theory, and the approach of Wittgenstein. Porter’s view is that Paul, himself, had his own opinions on Jesus, God, and Christianity overall. Porter suggests using the translation theory when looking to go beyond the bible. He believes one should carefully examine the core of what is being said in scripture, and then translate it into today’s language. Beyond the Bible is full of useful insights regarding how to apply scripture to doctrine and everyday life. Marshall, Vanhoozer, and Porter are all well-educated theologians. How to faithfully apply Scripture to everyday life is not conclusively agreed upon and laid out in this book, but it pushes readers to think about biblical interpretation in new ways. As mentioned earlier, hermeneutics is meant to be an on-going discussion, not a solo speech.
